Vision for Design Structure, a.k.a. Architecture
The design, structure or architecture of the Robot DHQ robot incorporates object oriented principles at all levels. This includes not only software but also mechanical and electronic components.
From a structural and physical point of view the animal body consists of bones, joints, muscles and connective tissues, tendons and ligaments being two of those. The reuse of these items in their various instances suggests a design paradigm that we intend to use as a template. Elements of this approach may be seen in the design HERE.
Designers realize that there are many competing goals in any design. Goals such as reuse and single purpose may be high priority but exceptions seem to proliferate. Still, when low cost of production is a primary aim economy of scale is most effective when any individual component may be used in as many places as possible.
Keeping the possibility open for reuse of components needs to be seriously considered at each stage of design.
We intend to remain open to suggestions for where this principle can be implemented.
