Adapter Boards Design and Implementation

Adapter boards allow sensors, actuators and logic processing modules to flexiblly connect to one another. The goal is to arrange the various input, output and power connections into a common physical plan so that in most cases components from a variety of suppliers can interconnect. This allows available the use of inexpensive components from many suppliers. This helps control costs. It also promotes reuse and optimizes the design process. The cable and adapter board concept is a key element in the Robot DHQ design. This page outlines the purpose, foundation and other aspects of this design approach. We welcome questions and comments that help us clarify and expand to this foundational design element. But if you find this key concept to be incompatible with your ideas of how to proceed please consider whether you wish to associate yourself with this project.

1. The one element common to all adapter boards is the ten conductor ribbon cable with insulation displacement connectors. (IDC connectors) See HERE.

2. One intent of the design is allow the maker who needs many cables in various lengths to inexpensively and easily make any number of custom cables.

3. Pin 1 is connected to pin 1. Pin 2 connects to pin 2, etc.
